i basically complain throughout this whole post so if you don't want to read about me complaining then you shouldn't continue.
This week has been full of work. I feel stupid complaining because I will probably eventually complain about how I don't have any money in the future. Don't get me wrong I am thankful for the work and that I am able to make money to help provide for myself...but sometimes people are stupid.
For my job, especially for this show, sometimes I don't have anything to do backstage because shows bring their own stage crew. Their stage crew takes care of everything. I am here to supervise them and make sure they don't screw anything up. I help with the fly system and I help with getting them materials that they need in order to take care of THEIR show. The actors for this particular show; however, do not realize these things. They think that I am supposed to do everything for their show because I am here and it's my theatre. and when I'm not doing things BECAUSE THEIR CREW is doing them it is frustrating because they make little snide sarcastic remarks under their breath as they walk by like "such hard work" and "what are you even doing?" hello. i can't do anything! there have been plenty of times that i ask their stage crew what they need me to do and they have nothing for me. they have everything covered already because they have a system planned out that they have been doing since before they even knew i existed. i can't help them if they won't let me. so don't make stupid comments about how i am not doing any work just because you aren't around when i am needed. i'm here to supervise. this post probably doesn't make sense to anyone else but me and maybe matt. but really..i can't do anything when there is nothing for me to do. stupid actors. I just wish they could see that they are not the focus of my attention and they are not the center of the universe. maybe they could try and do my job and then complain about me not doing anything. Just because they don't know what i do doesn't mean i don't do anything. OHHHHHHHHHHH i am just frustrated. and tired. and ready to not be at work all night. I love the stage crew. It's the silly actors that think silly things that are just ridiculous and they think it's okay to be rude to the people who are backstage because they are ONSTAGE when all the things that we do offstage are being changed. i like stage crews far better than actors. and that is probably why i am not doing acting as my major.
I totally agree. I get that sometimes when I'm stage managing a show, and I'm on headset telling other people what to do. What they don't realize is that telling people what to do IS my job. Just because I'm not running around doing anything doesn't mean I'm not working. Stupid people.
