I'm pretty much famous now

Okay. So I met Brian Stokes Mitchell. If you don't know who he is then I feel sad for you. He is amazing. He is a superstar Broadway man who has a voice like no other. Also, if you don't know who he is this post will have almost no significance for you.

-Watch that video. It's from a show called Ragtime. He is obviously the man...

ANYWAYS he is pretty much the only famous person that I have ever met. This is one of the reasons why I do actually love my job (on some occasions).
Wanna know how it happened?! Okay so..I went into work on Thursday and I had to put up some curtains in the deJong Concert Hall (pronounced de YONG..for those of you who don't know you do not actually say the J when you are pronouncing it. please get it right. thank you). The curtains that I had to put up were for the Brian Stokes Mitchell concert that took place yesterday. So get it..I was setting up Thursday, the day before the actual performance. SO! The curtains and the rest of the set were not finished by the time my shift was over so I had to go to class and since there are new people working at my job they aren't as fast as the older people so even when I got out of class everything still was not done so I got called back in to finish at work. Then Jennifer, my boss, game to the stage because she was in charge of stage managing the performance on friday, and she wanted me to stay just a little later so that I could move any of the set pieces around because Brian Stokes Mitchell's manager was coming in to check everything and make last minute changes. So I stayed and his manager came and we had to change some curtain things and move set pieces back and forth and back and forth and then he left. Once he left we were still there making some supposed final adjustments to the curtains when BRIAN STOKES MITCHELL WALKS IN THROUGH THE GATES AND ONTO THE STAGE! My friend, dustin, was working too and I turned to him when I saw Brian Stokes Mitchell and I started flipping out. He had come to check the stage and see where he was performing before the actual performance. I was so excited. Like seriously..I had to move some things around on stage again to his liking, but everytime I would go offstage I would turn to Dustin and be all little kid going "oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh!" SOOOOOOOOOO this might not seem all that exciting, but I did actually get to talk to him!
Jennifer, my boss, was talking to him and she said at a time when there was no talking "this is just my time to put my little plug in about Ragtime. That performace was..."blah blah blah I don't remember what else she said. I was doing something else but I heard her say ragtime so I perked up and I said looking at Brian Stokes Mitchell who was about 15 feet away from me "Are you talking about Ragtime?" and he nodded his head smiling. I smiled back and said "I love that show. You were so good. It was amazing." (wow..I'm so articulate..) but he said "thank you" and smiled graciously and then his manager started asking him questions blah blah blah THEN! later on before he was about to leave I gave a suggestion on how to reduce the sound pollution on the stage based on where he was standing and he said to me "you know, that's a really good idea. let's do that please." He thought I had a good idea :] :] :D ! GO ME! So basically he loves me and he is going to tell all his posse in New York about me and then they are all gonna come to BYU and want to give me jobs working on Broadway. I mean hey..it's always been my dream.now I'm just making it happen, right?
Oh brother. Can you tell I'm like a little kid with a movie star crush? Except this time it's a Broadway star crush (which is waaaaay cooler).

ANYWAYS, Matt and I are planning on going to the temple today again and then tonight there is a 24 hour theatre project performance going on at BYU that we are gonna go to. It should be fun. School has started. We made it through the first week. Trying to balance time with each other and getting our homework is probably gonna be challenging. It will be a big deal for me because I will not have as much homework as Matt will because he is already in his major and I don't think my classes are difficult. So I will just be waiting for him to finish sometimes. I don't know how I will cope with wanting to do things with him and spend time with him when he can't :/ I dunno...I guess I will be fine because I did it before when we weren't married. It was just easier then because he lived in a different apartment. Now we are in the same place at all times so sometimes I feel like we should be able to hang out and have fun together. I just need to remember that w0rk comes first and I have to support him in his work because I know it's hard for him having so much work..even if it hasn't happened yet I know it will later on in the semester. We will be fine. It's just interesting to see how each of us has to adjust in our relationship.

  1. McKenna, this is not the first famous person you have met. Orson Scott Card gave you a flipping crock pot! And I think more people know who he is than this Brian Stokes Mitchell fellow. Tsk tsk.

  2. Oh Sarah. I don't even think of him as being famous anymore because I have known him my whole life!
